Perhaps the most famous hiking trail in Greece, where hikers from all over the world come just for this experience. The crossing of the Samaria gorge.
If anyone could condense Cretan nature in one place, this would be Samaria gorge. Dense vegetation in its riverbed and imposing, bare of vegetation, peaks to surround it. Running waters, rocks, and an elegy of Cretan flora close to you and visible to fill your eyes and your soul.
Up on the peaks you can see almost the entire birdlife of the Cretan countryside nesting on the steep slopes, and if we are lucky, we can see up close the Cretan chamois, the famous Cretan Ibex, Kri-Kri.
No matter how many times one crosses it, will always discover it!
